The EU Blockchain Observatory and Forum publishes updated report on the State of the European Blockchain Ecosystem in 2022

Analyzing regulatory and market maturity for crypto assets in 31 countries

The EU Blockchain Observatory and Forum (EUBOF) has just published an updated detailed report on the current state of the European blockchain ecosystem. The first version of the report was published in 2020. The updated study adds new countries and reports on new blockchain and crypto-related developments across Europe over the last 2 years.

The report analyzes the status on both the adoption and the regulatory treatment of blockchain and crypto assets in all 27 EU member states, plus the United Kingdom (UK), Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein.

An individual factsheet is presented for each country, culminating in an assessment of the regulatory and ecosystem maturity level for all of them. According to the report, Cyprus, France, Malta, Estonia, Switzerland, and the UK, are Europe’s leaders, combining mature entrepreneurial ecosystems with clear regulatory frameworks.

The Institute For the Future (IFF) of the University of Nicosia and Netcompany-Intrasoft have led the scientific team producing the report, which, further to EUBOF partners, included notable contributors and interviewees such as the Vice-President of the European Parliament, MEP Eva Kaili.

Professor George Giaglis, IFF’s Executive Director stated: “We are proud to have worked with the European Commission and our partners at the EU Blockchain Observatory to publish an updated version of our flagship report on the state of the European Blockchain Ecosystem. We conducted dozens of expert interviews in all European countries and gathered data on regulatory initiatives, the status of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, education initiatives and communities of practice in each country. The outcome, in our opinion, represents the most thorough and up to date analysis of the state of the European blockchain ecosystem to date.”.
